When first published during World War II, this basic survival at sea manual was presented to Luftwaffe airmen in verse which was heavily colloquial and illustrated by colorful cartoon images.  The idea was that the novice flyer could memorize the couplets and recall the visual images in order to retain their valuable message.   Students of military aviation history will find this information on survival at sea most valuable.  In particular, the drawings, though stylized cartoons, provide extremely accurate renderings of specific items of survival equipment for reference purposes.
